Star Wars

Here is an illustration I did last year for Edge of Darkness, the first deluxe expansion for Star Wars™: The Card Game. The best thing about it? I got to paint the coolest bounty hunter in the Galaxy! Here is Boba Fett as he is escaping from the belly of the Sarlacc, blowing it up in the process. BADASSSS!!!

Syd Mead talking about Blade Runner

Saw this over on James Gurney's blog , so I had to post it. Here is one the greatest designers of all time, talking about his work on the greatest sci-fi movie: Blade Runner. Just think that this guy is responsible, in one way or another, for what we see in all sci-fi movies nowadays.

Not only did Syd Mead do a great job on Blade Runner (and Aliens, and Tron :D), but he succeeded in developing a visual language that people expect to see in all the sci-fi productions that followed after it.

So have a look at this video, but most importantly listen carefully to what he says, as you may find some clues to his design process. Cheers!

I give up!

After a loooong, long time, I finally gave up and decided to join Facebook. Maybe not really join... but created a page where I can showcase my art, and hopefully reach a larger audience (I'm still on the fence about creating a personal profile:P). So if you feel like it, you are more than welcome to drop by at Art of Cristi Balanescu.

To celebrate this I thought I could dig through some old stuff, and share some of my early stuff. This piece was a study from Frazetta's Nightstalker, and was done in Painter(I think...) using a Wacom Volito, sometime in 2006.

Also I'm thinking of doing a regular column with older works, since I have a bunch of the stuff laying around on my HDD. Tell me what you think.

So the end of the world has passed and we're still here. I guess that's somewhat of a good thing... It's been one messed up year, but things seem to settle down nicely, so maybe this one will be a little better. I've been busy finishing some work these last 2 weeks, but I finally found some time to do something personal. So here's a scarred old sellsword ready to kick some ass.
